All five of the Abilene Police Department’s four-legged officers completed re-certification efforts during the recent trials of the United States Police Canine Association Region 25, according to police.
Each of the dogs — Ringo, Tica, Karma, Shadow and Barco — earned passing grades in general patrol dog use, tracking, protection and narcotics detection, police said in a news release.
They met from March 26-30 in Wichita County, police said.
In addition to the re-certification, the dogs also performed in exercises and earned some awards for performance. Among the 22 participating dogs, and their human partners, Ringo took first place in general patrol, Tica was named second place in patrol, Karma earned fourth place in patrol and in narcotics and Shadow was second place in narcotics.
Barco was given the «Rookie Dog Award,» after joining in the force in July.
