The mayor of Paysandú Williams Martinez launched a campaign for adoption of a donkey, the last inhabitant of the closed zoo department.
«What are we going to do with the donkey?», asked Martinez when the fate of the animal was treated in the plenary session of the Departmental Board. «Nobody wants them; nobody wants the donkey and the municipality has to take care of to keep it daily to survive,» reported the daily Telegraph.
By 30 votes to 31, the selectmen passed the issue to the Commission of Hygiene and Environment to resolve the transfer of the donkey.
Martinez gave rise to a campaign for the adoption of the donkey, either by an individual or an association for the protection of animals.
«We should apiadarnos all sanduceros and in particular the departmental administration» and «to take urgent measures to ensure that this poor animal can get out of this situation», added the mayor of the National Party.
