The initiative led by the Public Establishment Environmental (EPA) was launched this Sunday on the beaches of Bocagrande in a day of awareness to tourists and locals.
With the “campaign Of heart with the animal protection”, it seeks to encourage in this Holy Week to the care of the domestic fauna, and street, horses, coachmen, to the non-consumption of the iguana eggs and the not purchase of products and accessories made with the carapace of the hawksbill turtle.
The strategy is joined by foundations and associations that protect the rights of animals, in order to motivate the cartageneros to take care of the natural resources, not to throw waste to the beach, the sea, and not to include in the menu to the species classified at risk of extinction.
“The purpose is so that natives and tourists support us in this proposal in order to protect the nature and to enjoy the Holy Week, but with environmental responsibility. Each species fulfills a biological cycle in the earth, and with our behavior we are affecting and almost disappearing,” said María Angélica García Turbay, director of the EPA.
For its part, the president of the Association for the protection of Animals, Mary Bonfante, invited citizens and travellers to give a good use to the horses, coachmen, to not allow the overweight and opt for a second car, if there are more than 4 people.
“The idea is to work together with the EPA to raise awareness among national and international tourists about waste management, to respect the bodies of water and to raise awareness of animal protection,” said the leader animalistic.
