The occurrence of different weather phenomena and natural disasters has tested the solidarity of the society in the last days.

Particularly, the strong impact of the hurricane Harvey in Texas caused the evacuation of thousands of people of Houston, the fourth largest city in the united States, leaving homes and even abandoned pets.

However, these extreme experiences have been shown to serve as a stage for the emergence of large stories that put the commitment and the selflessness ahead.

In this framework, on the 5th of last September, the airline Southwest Airlines sent a plane specially to Houston to rescue dozens of dogs and cats orphaned, and move to a safe location, specifically to a shelter in San Diego, California.

The rescue of the animals was carried out in conjunction with the NGO Helen Woodward Animal Center.

“The work was hard but incredibly rewarding”, noted from the organization for the protection of animals.

“When something as devastating as a hurricane hits, you have to leave too many things behind. People lose their homes, their possessions, and just focus on survival. And these pet orphans also remain,” said Jennifer Shorey, director of operations Helen Woodward Animal Center.

From Southwest Airlines point out that the hurricane has greatly affected many of their clients, therefore they understand that their action is part of the social responsibility that is theirs.

“Our hearts are with our customers, employees, family and friends that have experienced loss and devastation from the storm,” said Linda Rutherford, Director of Communications at Southwest Airlines.

“Our employees care so much for our clients as for all of those affected by hurricane Harvey, including our sweet four-legged friends”, he concluded.

From Helen Woodward Animal Center reported that the Tuesday, September 5, approximately 80 dogs and cats orphaned flew for the airline, and they arrived safe and sound at the Center of Animals that the organization has in Rancho Santa Fe, to receive protection and containment.

Without a doubt, when different organizations of the society leave their interests aside, and think about helping the community, the results end up being very fruitful for all.

These animals will thank you forever!
