Police canine killed in line of duty was ‘great dog,’ cops say – MLive.com

ST. CLAIR SHORES, MI — Officers at the St. Clair Shores Police Department are still reeling after one of their K-9 dogs was killed in the line of duty this weekend.

In a Facebook post by the St. Clair Shores Police Officers Association, Axe, a 4-year-old dog who has been with the department since 2016, was described as a hard-working and good dog, who will be missed by the department and in particular, Axe’s handler Officer Price.

Axe was shot and killed by a suspect who fled the scene of a police investigation Sunday. The German shepherd was tracking the suspect when the man opened fire, killing the dog.

Police returned fire, eventually killing the suspect as well.

The Macomb County sheriff’s office is now handling the investigation. The name of the man killed by officers has not been released.
