Why today we celebrate the World Animal Day - Radio Mitre 1

The world celebrates this Wednesday the Day of the Animals Day World Animal, in commemoration of St. Francis of Assisi, who is considered the first human conceived of itself in relation with all created things, whereas in reality we are all creatures of God.

The initiative to establish this date was of the World Organization of Animal Protection, in a congress held in Vienna, in the year 1929.

It was only in 1980, when Pope John Paul II declared St. Francis of Assisi as the patron saint of Animals and Ecologists.

It is worth to mark, that also, in Argentina some celebrate this day on April 29. Why? to remember the death of a person who was president of the Society for the protection of Animals, the doctor Ignacio Lucas Albarracín, in 1926.
