Surpassing not only the target of the previous years, but also exceeding both targets combined, Telemundo Puerto Rico was able to the Saturday, August 19, 1,008 pets find a permanent home as part of their campaign to Vacate the Hostels, an initiative involving all of the stations, Telemundo and NBC, earning the historic figure of about 61,963 thousand adoptions.
“This campaign has the purpose of rescuing pets from the streets and shelters to give a home is a beautiful gesture of love and respect. It is a campaign that needs all and of each one of us. In Puerto Rico we will continue joining forces with NBC to improve the quality of life of all pets without a home. Without a doubt, when you give roof, love and food become our best friends,” said Jose Cancela, President of Telemundo Puerto Rico.
For the third consecutive year, 21 organizations dedicated to rescuing pets who are homeless and enable them to be adopted, including hostels, groups of rescuers and sanctuaries, joined to cover the whole of the Island giving the opportunity to the people of Puerto Rico to lead a healthier pet to your home. The success of the campaign was in part thanks to the support of the people of puerto rico that responded to the call of Telemundo and by his human sensitivity took the step of going to the nearest shelter to meet the pets and give them a home.
the Hostels was an event in 21 hostels around the Island, but had a seat-of-transmission from the Municipality of Loíza, that, by the honorable mayor, Julia Maria Nazario, gave an additional support to the shelter Friends of the Animals by providing a space in the Public Square in front of the Mayor to have a better accessibility for the public, resulting in multiple adoptions during the day yesterday.
In the Square there were also vaccination clinics free of charge thanks to the collaboration of Dr. Shaiana Negron and students of the program of Veterinary Technology, University of Turabo, supervised by their teacher Hector Ozuna.
“We applaud Telemundo for this initiative that has had an extraordinary reception. The issue of pets of homeless is one that dates back years and is certainly a public health problem that this initiative to Vacate the Hostels has responded in a creative way. As the protector of animals also I got particularly with a pet and filled out the application to take him into my home,” expressed the mayor of Loíza, to the surprise of all present there, also took the step and adopted a pet who called him Titan.
The mayor, before his commitment to the community loiceña, doubled the amount of vaccines that provided the Turabo to increase the help to the host who had to Vacate the Hostels in Loíza and the great number of people came with their pets for preventive care of health.
