The animalists reject abandonment of cats on the track – The Universal – Colombia

The Protective Association of Animals of Cartagena rejected the abandonment of cats that is happening on the athletics track, in the neighborhood of Olaya Herrera, Sector 11 November, and which was reported by a citizen.

Mary Bonfante Stephens, president of the entity, said that «this picture is the reflection of a society’s irresponsible that she has not wanted to understand the concept of a responsible pet ownership».

The activist criticized the low management of the government district to address the overpopulation of street animals, and asked for a plan of action to solve the problem of fund.

«We’re concerned that as the foundations and the activists of the defenders of animals, because we do not see concrete actions from the Mayor’s office to care for animals at risk and abandonment. We hope that you will devote the resources to the Umata, which has been the willingness of support to the citizens and attend to what is happening, but money has not been able to,» said Bonfante.

For his part, the complainant, identified as Martín Salas Avila, urged the Management District to intensify awareness-raising campaigns to avoid that occurring cases such as this. According to him, in the last two weeks have dropped between 15 and 20 cats within the sports scene.

As you may recall, Cartagena does not yet have a public policy for the welfare and protection of animals, nor has a census real what is the number of dogs and cats that roam the streets of the city.
